Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has approved ₦500 million to strengthen the state’s fight against malnutrition, with the funding expected to sustain supplies of life-saving nutrition products and improve treatment efforts.

Governor Dikko Radda has secured the approval of the Katsina State Executive Council for ₦500 million to combat acute malnutrition, alongside a raft of social welfare, infrastructure and youth development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents.
The approval, granted during the Council’s 15th Regular Meeting, provides the state’s counterpart funding for the procurement of nutrition commodities for 2026 to strengthen the treatment of children suffering from acute malnutrition.
Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, said the intervention will ensure the sustained availability of life-saving nutrition supplies and reinforce the state’s response to malnutrition.
In a further boost to citizens’ welfare, the Council approved the procurement of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to vulnerable households, as well as cash and non-food assistance for widows, orphans, persons with disabilities and other less privileged residents to cushion the effects of economic hardship.
The Council also approved the modernisation of key markets in Dandume, Daura, Mashi and Jibia to stimulate commerce, the rehabilitation of 81 Jumu’at Mosques across the state’s 34 local government areas, and the establishment of the Katsina State Model United Nations Organisation (MUNDO) to nurture leadership and diplomacy among young people.
In addition, the Executive Council endorsed new coordination and accountability frameworks for the World Bank-supported HOPE-GOV, HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU programmes to improve implementation, strengthen transparency and maximise development outcomes.
In a statement signed and issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said the approvals reflect his administration’s commitment to tackling pressing social challenges, strengthening healthcare, expanding economic opportunities and improving the welfare of the people of Katsina State.
