The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the shooting of a resident to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faces justice.

The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a resident identified as Olalekan Oyeyemi, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The Command disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, September 13, 2026, saying the incident occurred on the same day.
“The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of one Olalekan Oyeyemi, a.k.a. “Emir Ajagungbade,” in Ile-Ife, Osun State, today, 13th September, 2026,” it said.
According to the statement, the police were alerted to an accident around Energy Filling Station, Ile-Ife, following which operatives were deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene and begin investigations.
The police said the investigation was aimed at determining the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identifying those responsible and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.
“The Command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice,” the spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said. “The Command assures members of the public that every necessary investigative and operational measure is being taken to get to the root of the matter.”
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the incident and appealed to individuals, groups and members of the public not to take the law into their hands or engage in reprisal attacks, violence, destruction of property or other forms of criminality.
He also urged residents of Ile-Ife and the wider state to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with the Police by providing useful information that could assist the investigation.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order, while expressing condolences to the immediate family and friends of Olalekan Oyeyemi.
