Daura Zone has emerged champion of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Agricultural Debate Competition after defeating Katsina Zone in the grand finale.
The final debate saw both teams argue the motion, “Crop farming is more profitable than poultry farming,” with Daura Zone delivering the winning performance to clinch the title.

Daura Zone has emerged overall winner of the 2025 Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) Inter-Zonal Debate Competition organised by the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), following an impressive display of knowledge, eloquence and critical thinking by primary school pupils.
The competition, held in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), marked the climax of a programme designed to promote agricultural education, public speaking and analytical skills among learners in Katsina State’s basic education system.
Participants drawn from Katsina, Daura, Malumfashi and Dutsinma Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) were guided by Agricultural Science and Science teachers who mentored them throughout the training and debate sessions.
The grand finale featured a keenly contested debate between Katsina and Daura zones on the motion: “Crop farming is more profitable than poultry farming.”
Arguing in favour of the motion, the Katsina team maintained that crop farming remains a more sustainable and reliable source of income, noting that it carries a lower risk of total loss and provides long-term economic benefits despite seasonal challenges.
The Daura team, however, disagreed, contending that poultry farming offers faster returns on investment due to its short production cycle, high market demand and potential for job creation. The pupils argued that poultry farmers can recover their investments within weeks, unlike crop farmers who often contend with unpredictable weather conditions and fluctuating market prices.
Following the closely fought contest, the judges declared Daura Zone the overall champion. Katsina Zone finished in second place, while Dutsinma Zone secured third position.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Katsina State SUBEB, Dr. Kabir Magaji, commended the participants for their outstanding performances, describing the competition as a reflection of the gains being made through sustained investment in quality basic education.
He praised the pupils for demonstrating confidence, fluency in English, sound reasoning and excellent presentation skills, while also acknowledging the commitment of teachers and organisers who contributed to the success of the programme.
Dr. Magaji further lauded the Katsina State Government for its continued support for educational development, noting that such initiatives are helping to nurture a new generation of talented and globally competitive learners.
He reaffirmed SUBEB’s commitment to providing more platforms for pupils to develop their intellectual and leadership potential, expressing confidence that Katsina State will continue to produce students capable of excelling at national and international levels.
