The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that no fire occurred at Lagos Airport Terminal 2, saying emergency responders were deployed as a precaution after an earlier reported incident triggered safety protocols.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that no fire outbreak occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, contrary to initial concerns that prompted an emergency response on Sunday.
In an updated statement issued on Sunday, FAAN said preliminary findings showed that the smoke observed within the terminal was caused by the discharge of the facility’s FM-200 fire suppression system and not by a fire incident.
According to the authority, investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the activation of the system.
“Preliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal. The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system. The reason for the activation of the fire suppression system is currently being investigated,” FAAN said.
The authority had earlier announced an incident at Terminal 2 and deployed its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) to the scene as a precautionary measure while emergency protocols were activated.
FAAN also confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded.
It further disclosed that normal operations have resumed at the terminal, with passengers being processed and flight activities continuing as scheduled.
“Normal operations have since resumed at the terminal, while detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident,” the statement added.
FAAN thanked passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of airport operations.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport is Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, handling thousands of domestic and international passengers daily.
