The Niger State Government says it has reconstructed more than 1,000 classrooms and distributed 120,000 chairs and tables to schools across the state as part of efforts to improve the quality of education and create a more conducive learning environment.
The state government also says it has installed more than 100 solar-powered boreholes in schools and provided modern toilet facilities to improve access to water and sanitation and curb open defecation within school premises.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Communication, Abdulberqy Ebbo, disclosed this in a statement issued in Minna.
Ebbo said the initiatives were part of the administration’s commitment to sustaining investments in basic and post-basic education, while ensuring that schools are adequately equipped and staffed with qualified teachers.
According to him, the impact of the projects was established during a comprehensive assessment tour conducted by his team across beneficiary schools in the Zone A and Zone B Senatorial Districts of the state.
The monitoring exercise covered Bosso, Edati, Gurara, Katcha, Lavun, Mokwa, Munya, Paikoro and Shiroro Local Government Areas, as well as the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre in Minna.
Some of the beneficiary schools inspected include JSS Birgi and DSS Shata in Bosso; GDSS Rokota and JSS Lenfa-Bororo in Edati; and JSS Boysarki in Gurara.
Others are GGCC Katcha, JSS Edotsu and Gada Ereigi in Katcha; JSS Chari, GDSS Manbe and JSS Kutigi in Lavun; as well as DSS Muregi, Gbajibo, Muwo, JSS Tyabo and Dunmi in Mokwa.
The assessment also covered DSS Guni and JSS Kuchi in Munya; GGSS Kaffin Koro in Paikoro; and JSS Gunu, Mutun-Daya, DSS Kpakpma, Gurmana and Pina in Shiroro.
The Teachers’ Professional Development Centre in Minna was also inspected as part of the monitoring exercise.
Ebbo said the government would continue to invest in educational infrastructure and human capital development to provide pupils and students with improved facilities and better learning opportunities across Niger State.
