The Ondo State Police Command has warned cult groups and other criminal elements against any planned gathering, procession, initiation or celebration under the guise of the proposed “7/7” cult activities.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued in Akure, saying intelligence reports available to the police indicate that some cult groups may be planning activities to commemorate the annual “7/7” celebration.
According to him, such activities could threaten public peace, endanger innocent lives and disrupt lawful activities across the state.
Jimoh said robust security assets have been deployed to identified flashpoints and other strategic locations to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
He added that operatives of the command’s various special squads have been directed to embark on intensive visibility policing, confidence-building patrols, surveillance and intelligence-driven raids to prevent any breach of public peace.

“The Command wishes to unequivocally state that it will not tolerate any unlawful gathering, display of cult insignia, brandishing of weapons, violent procession or any act capable of causing fear or panic among law-abiding residents,” he stated.
The police spokesperson further warned that any individual or group found violating the law would be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also stressed that anyone found aiding or harbouring criminal elements would be liable to prosecution.
Jimoh appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious movements or gatherings to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
He assured residents that the command remains fully prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to any attempt by criminal elements to undermine the prevailing peace in the state.
