The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Sebastian Dongshal, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring peaceful elections and strengthening security ahead of forthcoming electoral activities in the state
Dongshal stated this during two separate courtesy visits by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the newly inaugurated Taraba State Security Council at the Command Headquarters in Jalingo.
The meetings were aimed at boosting institutional collaboration, enhancing security coordination, and promoting lasting peace across the state.
During the first engagement, the INEC delegation emphasised the critical role of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
The officials stressed that early security planning, intelligence sharing, and inter-agency cooperation are key to ensuring that voting activities are conducted in a transparent, credible, and violence-free atmosphere.
Responding, Dongshal pledged that the Command would remain professional, impartial, and guided by the Electoral Act to ensure a safe environment where eligible voters can exercise their civic duties without fear or harassment.
In a subsequent meeting, Dongshal and the Command Management Team received members of the newly inaugurated Taraba State Security Council following their swearing-in by the state Governor.
The council members said the visit was to foster a strong working relationship with the police to address security challenges confronting the state.
Both parties agreed that effective security is a collective responsibility, as they pledged to work closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth organisations to improve community-led intelligence gathering and proactively tackle emerging threats.
