The senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Katung, has appealed to the public to remain calm and respect the wishes of the family of Mary Habila following her tragic death.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Media Adviser, Midat Joseph, the senator urged citizens to exercise restraint and refrain from actions or statements capable of heightening tensions or disrupting public peace.
He said that while the grief and emotions surrounding the incident were understandable, they should not give way to actions that could endanger lives, undermine public order, or prejudice due process.
Katung also called on the public to respect the family’s desire to mourn privately and bury their daughter with dignity. According to him, the family has made it clear that it does not want intrusion or recrimination arising from the tragedy. He said his appeal also extends to his colleagues in the National Assembly and the many well-wishers within and outside Nigeria who have reached out seeking answers.
The senator expressed profound sadness over Mary’s death, describing it as a heartbreaking loss that has left her family, friends, and the Kaduna South community in mourning.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the repose of her soul and for God to grant her loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Katung further expressed hope that the relevant authorities would, where necessary, conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident in accordance with the law so that the truth is established and justice is served. According to him, the wishes and feelings of the bereaved family should be respected throughout the process.
The senator also disclosed that he had assured Mary’s parents of his office’s commitment to ensuring they receive fair treatment and that every lawful effort is made to help them achieve the closure they seek.
