The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has confirmed the release of the Nigerian girls who were detained in Mauritius, saying efforts are ongoing to ensure their welfare and facilitate the necessary follow-up support.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed that the girls had been safely released in Nairobi and are currently en route to Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erewa said NiDCOM is working closely with the relevant Nigerian embassy, which has formally taken up the matter with the authorities concerned to ensure accountability for the incident and prevent a recurrence.
She expressed sympathy for the affected girls and said the commission hopes they will be willing to share their experiences upon their return to help inform any necessary follow-up actions and support measures.
The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to the welfare, safety and protection of Nigerians living abroad, stressing that safeguarding citizens in the diaspora remains a priority.
According to her, the commission will continue to work with relevant authorities and diplomatic missions to ensure the rights and well-being of Nigerians are protected wherever they reside, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
