Police have arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a security operation in Plateau State. The command urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen efforts against crime and improve public safety.
A gun was recovered from the suspects.
The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition in Kanke Local Government Area, in what it described as another breakthrough in the fight against crime across the state.
The suspects, both of Nyinang Village in Amper District, Kanke LGA, were arrested on August 2, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation launched after a reported kidnapping incident.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Police Command, Alfred Alabo, the Command received a distress report of the kidnapping on August 1 at the Kanke Police Division.
It said the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed a team of detectives, working in collaboration with other security agencies, to rescue the victims and track down those responsible.
According to the police, the operation led to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
“The suspects are currently in our custody, while investigation is still ongoing at the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate and recover any additional weapons connected to the crime,” the statement read in part.
The Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, commended members of the public for their vigilance and continued support to the Police.
He urged residents to sustain their cooperation by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling crime.
The police reiterated their appeal to citizens to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities, stressing, “See Something, Say Something to the appropriate quarters.”
