Healthcare workers in Katsina State have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government over unmet demands, warning of a statewide strike if the issues are not resolved, as the prolonged delay continues to affect workers’ morale, motivation and productivity.
Healthcare workers under the umbrella of the Assembly of Healthcare Professionals in Katsina State (AHAPN) have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Katsina State Government, demanding the immediate implementation of long-standing welfare and professional entitlements or face an indefinite industrial action.
The ultimatum, which took effect from August 11, 2026, was announced on Tuesday during a press conference held at the State Secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in Katsina.
AHAPN, an umbrella body comprising the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), expressed deep concern over what it described as the government’s continued failure to address the legitimate welfare and professional demands of healthcare workers despite several engagements and representations.
Addressing journalists, the State Chairman of AHAPN, Comrade Ibrahim Balange, said the prolonged delay in resolving the issues has adversely affected the morale, motivation, and productivity of healthcare professionals who remain committed to delivering quality healthcare services across Katsina State.
He said the assembly expects the government to meet its outstanding demands within the 21-day window to avert a disruption in healthcare services.

Among the key demands are the immediate implementation of 100 percent CONHESS as obtainable in Federal Health Institutions, the implementation of the skipping of CONHESS 10 in line with existing circulars, and an upward review of the 10 percent hazard allowance to match federal standards.
The healthcare workers are also demanding an upward review of other allowances, including call duty, shift duty, clinical and non-clinical, rural and specialist allowances, as well as an increase in the uniform allowance for nurses to ₦80,000, in line with what is obtainable in Federal Health Institutions.

Comrade Balange described the demands as fair, justified, and essential to improving the welfare of healthcare professionals and strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
He warned that failure by the government to address the demands before the expiration of the ultimatum would leave the Assembly of Healthcare Professionals—comprising virtually all healthcare workers in the state except medical doctors—with no alternative but to embark on a statewide strike.
“We remain hopeful that the state government will act promptly to avoid disruption of healthcare services in the best interest of the people of Katsina State,” Balange said.
