The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LSWA) and Julius Berger have strengthened their partnership to advance infrastructure projects, reinforcing efforts to support sustainable development and improve critical infrastructure across Lagos.
The need to prevent road construction and other infrastructure projects from damaging critical water pipelines has brought the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc together to explore closer collaboration on infrastructure development across the state.
The discussions took place during a courtesy visit by the management of the LSWC to Julius Berger’s Regional Office in Ijora, Lagos, where both organisations examined ways to improve coordination between water and road infrastructure planning.
The engagement focused on building a more resilient and sustainable infrastructure network while ensuring that critical water facilities are protected during road construction and other major development projects.
Welcoming the LSWC delegation, Julius Berger’s Regional Commercial Manager, Alexander Bauer, said stronger relationships between institutions operating within the same environment were essential to successful infrastructure delivery.
“We believe in knowing our neighbours and working together where our interests align. Julius Berger remains committed to supporting sustainable infrastructure development, and we are always open to engaging with stakeholders such as the Lagos State Water Corporation whenever technical support or collaboration is required,” Bauer said.
He noted that Lagos State and the Federal Ministry of Works remained among Julius Berger’s major infrastructure clients, stressing that effective coordination with public institutions was crucial to the successful execution of major projects.
Bauer said the company’s approach was centred on long-term engineering solutions rather than temporary fixes.
He encouraged the Water Corporation to leverage Julius Berger’s technical expertise whenever the need arose, particularly in projects involving roads, water infrastructure and other interconnected public works.
For the LSWC Managing Director, Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, the visit was an opportunity to strengthen a relationship that had not received sufficient attention despite the two organisations operating within the same environment for years.
He explained that stronger cooperation would enable both organisations to better coordinate projects, particularly in areas where road construction intersects with water distribution infrastructure.
He described the visit as both a familiarisation exercise and a neighbourly initiative aimed at deepening institutional understanding and building professional relationships that could support future infrastructure projects.
During the meeting, the two organisations explored possible areas of collaboration, including road construction, protection of water pipelines, water infrastructure development, sustainable water supply systems and integrated infrastructure planning.
The discussions also covered project delivery, technical expertise and the importance of sustained communication among stakeholders in achieving Lagos State’s broader infrastructure development objectives.
