Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has described the All Progressives Congress’ defeat in the Osun governorship election as a wake-up call rather than a setback for President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the President still has strong political prospects ahead of the 2027 election.
Kalu, who congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, urged the APC to study the outcome of the poll, reconnect with voters and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the next general election.
The former Abia State governor and senator representing Abia North said the Osun result should encourage the ruling party to learn from its shortcomings rather than become discouraged.
According to him, the election was an expression of the people’s choice and should be respected as part of the democratic process.
Kalu argued that the outcome of a governorship election in one state should not automatically be interpreted as a rejection of Tinubu, noting that the 2027 presidential contest would involve broader political alliances and calculations.
He maintained that the President could still attract support from voters and political stakeholders across party lines, while urging APC leaders to use the period ahead to strengthen their relationship with the people.
The senator also called for unity within the APC, stressing that the party still has time to rebuild its structures and address concerns raised by the Osun election before the 2027 polls.
