Police have arrested a suspected mastermind linked to the attack in Mangu, Plateau State, that claimed 25 lives, as the Nigerian Army launches ‘Operation Hard Nut’ to root out terrorists and other criminal elements in the area.

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of 25 people and the injury of four others in Tuesday morning’s attack on Bi Mper village in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area.

The attack prompted renewed security measures in the area, with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Maxwell Dangana, moving his tactical office to Mangu for two weeks to directly supervise operations.

The Nigerian Army has also launched ‘Operation Hard Nut’ to flush out terrorists and other criminal elements operating in the area and restore normalcy.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest

Alabo said the command is making headway in its investigation and is still on the trail of other attackers involved in the deadly assault.

He said the suspect in custody is believed to be the mastermind of the attack.

The police spokesperson assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects and bring all those responsible for the killings to justice.
