Four operatives of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps have been killed after bandits ambushed them during a routine operation in Ago-Oyinbo, a farming settlement in Akure North Local Government Area.

Four personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, have been confirmed dead following an ambush attack by bandits in Ago-oyinbo farming settlement of Akure North Local Council Area of the state.

The operatives of the corps were ambushed when moving from their base within the axis.

According to sources, the assailants engaged the security personnel in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted several minutes before the attackers fled into the bush

While confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of the corps, John Adenekan, stated that one officer sustained serious injuries and currently receiving medical attention.

Adenekan maintained that the criminal gang waited for the officers after monitoring their movements during routine patrol operations, catching the security personnel off guard.

He said “Reinforcements were immediately deployed to the area following the incident, with joint security forces conducting intensive search operations to track the perpetrators.

“The Corps has also intensified patrols and intelligence-gathering activities within the affected communities to prevent further attacks.

“They demonstrated exceptional courage and commitment to the protection of the people of Ondo State.”

Meanwhile Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has expressed sadness over the loss of the security personnel, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the state.

The governor, alongside the Corps Commander and management extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen officers.

The Corps has appealed to members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while urging residents to provide security agencies with credible information that may assist in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.

“We are fully committed to tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. The Corps, in conjunction with other security agencies, will continue to protect lives and property.”
