Three kidnap victims have been rescued by the police in Kaduna State after a gun battle sent the suspected bandits fleeing into nearby bushes, with some believed to have suffered gunshot wounds.

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have rescued three kidnapped victims and dislodged a suspected bandits’ hideout in Makarfi Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, the operation was carried out on Friday, August 21, following credible intelligence about suspicious movements around Gidan Mijin Gwaggo, Durum, in Makarfi.

It said that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed the Divisional Police Officer in Makarfi to lead a patrol team, in collaboration with local vigilantes, to the area.

The suspected kidnappers reportedly opened fire after sighting the security personnel, leading to a gun battle.

The assailants eventually fled into the surrounding bushes, with some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

The security team subsequently searched a house belonging to one Yakubu Sule and discovered that it was allegedly being used as a hideout by the suspected bandits.

Three kidnapped victims, including Hamza Gimi, were found and rescued unharmed.

A Boxer motorcycle suspected to have been used by the kidnappers was also recovered from the premises.

The statement said that the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families, while police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Following the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police commended the police personnel and local vigilantes for their prompt response and collaboration.

He also assured residents of Makarfi and other parts of Kaduna State of the command’s continued commitment to intelligence-led policing and stronger cooperation with communities to combat criminal activities.
