Delta State’s Joel Achimbon has emerged champion of the Boys Singles at the fourth South-South Under-13 Badminton Tournament, which concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
Achimbon dominated the Boys Singles event to claim first place, while fellow Delta player Triumph Okocha finished as runner-up. Delight Julius placed third, with Joshua Patrice finishing fourth.
The tournament brought together young badminton players from across the South-South region, with participants particularly from Delta and Edo states. The competition was aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents while providing them with opportunities to develop their sporting abilities.
The fourth edition was held in Asaba, with Delta State, Edo State and NNPC Badminton Club from Warri participating. The tournament’s organisers had earlier said the competition was designed to catch young talents early and provide them with a pathway to develop their skills alongside their education.
The championship further highlighted the growing pool of young badminton talent in the South-South region, with Achimbon emerging as the standout performer in the Boys Singles category.
