Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spain midfielder Rodri after the Catalan club had two previous bids rejected, bringing the 30-year-old closer to a return to La Liga.
Reports indicate that Manchester City accepted Barcelona’s latest offer, understood to be worth around £65.4 million ($88.5 million), after negotiations between the two clubs. Rodri has also reportedly agreed to a four-year contract with the Spanish champions.
The agreement was reported on Sunday, with a source from Barcelona telling AFP that the transfer is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
Barcelona had stepped up their pursuit of Rodri after losing midfielder Frenkie de Jong to a lengthy injury. The club ultimately secured the deal after City rejected earlier proposals for the Spain international.
Rodri joined Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and went on to become one of the most important players in the club’s recent history. During his seven seasons at the Etihad, he helped City win four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, among other major trophies. He was also named the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
The midfielder is now expected to complete the move to Barcelona after the remaining formalities, including the necessary documentation and medical procedures.
If completed, the transfer will mark Rodri’s return to Spanish football and represent one of Barcelona’s biggest moves of the summer transfer window.
