Six people have been killed in a road crash in Adamawa, with authorities yet to establish what triggered the accident as investigations continue.
Six persons have been confirmed killed in a fatal motor accident that occurred on Thursday, along Girei Road in Adamawa State.
In a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Adamawa State Police Command said it had received a report of the crash and immediately deployed operatives from its Girei Divisional Headquarters, Federal Housing, and the Central Motor Traffic Division to the location.
The victims were then evacuated to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead; however, details of what led to the crash are yet to be fully established as investigations are ongoing.
Wreckage from the accident has also been cleared, while normal flow of traffic has been restored on the busy route.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, commiserated with the families of the deceased. He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
CP Hassan also appealed to residents to remain calm while the Command concludes its investigation. He assured that further details will be communicated to the public as more information becomes available.
In a renewed call for road safety, the Commissioner urged motorists in the state to drive with caution, obey traffic rules, and avoid overspeeding. He warned that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal accidents on Adamawa roads.
The Command reiterated its commitment to working with relevant agencies to enforce traffic laws and reduce crashes, especially on major highways like Girei Road. Police authorities said public cooperation is critical to preventing further loss of lives.
