The United Kingdom has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, with the diplomat set to strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, security, migration, development, international partnerships and people-to-people ties from her base in Abuja.
The UK Government has announced the appointment of Vicky Seymour as Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria.
Seymour succeeds Gill Lever OBE, who completed her posting in June 2026.
A statement by the UK government on Thursday noted that Seymour has resumed her role in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, where she will support and strengthen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria, which spans economic growth, security, migration, development, international collaboration and the links between our people.
Seymour brings more than two decades of experience across diplomacy, international development and government.
Most recently, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held since 2023.
Before this, she led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her career has included senior leadership roles across Africa, including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Afghanistan, as well as positions focused on climate, security and economic development.
Before joining the civil service, she worked in the not-for-profit sector with a focus on migration.
