The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, and the Ports Authority Police Western Command have pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations to tackle maritime crime, secure port infrastructure and facilitate legitimate trade.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a familiarisation and courtesy visit by the Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Murtala Muazu, to the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja.

Muazu said closer cooperation between the two agencies was critical to addressing emerging security threats and protecting the nation’s economic interests, particularly within the maritime sector.

He stressed that effective intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and sustained engagement would improve the agencies’ capacity to respond to security challenges while ensuring that legitimate port activities were not unnecessarily disrupted.

The customs chief reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the existing relationship between both commands.

In her response, Agbaminoja pledged the police command’s continued support for the Nigeria Customs Service in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

She said cooperation among security and regulatory agencies was essential to combating criminal activities, protecting critical port infrastructure and maintaining order within the nation’s maritime facilities.

Agbaminoja also assured Muazu of the command’s readiness to deepen the partnership through intelligence sharing, coordinated security operations and regular engagement.

She expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between the two agencies would help create a safer and more business-friendly port environment, supporting legitimate trade and contributing to national economic growth.
