One person has died while four others have been rescued after a four-storey building collapsed in Enugu State. The cause of the incident remains unknown as concerns mount over building safety and regulatory enforcement.
A four-storey building under construction has collapsed on Ogbalu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.
Workers were reportedly sleeping at the site when the structure came down at about 6 a.m. this morning.
Four workers were rescued, while one body has been recovered.
The State Capital Territory says the rescued workers are receiving treatment at the Enugu State Teaching Hospital, while one of the six persons who were sleeping at the site had stepped out before the incident occurred.
NEMA, the Red Cross, SEMA, the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority and the Police are currently involved in the rescue operation.
