Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) has intensified road reconstruction and rehabilitation, with major projects underway in Oshodi-Isolo and other areas as improved weather conditions create opportunities for more extensive repairs.
The corporation’s General Manager, Tokunbo Ajanaku, gave the assurance yesterday during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area and other locations across Lagos.
Ajanaku said the reconstruction of Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street in Oshodi-Isolo was being carried out on the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address infrastructure gaps and improve connectivity within communities.
He said the projects, upon completion, would ease traffic movement, reduce travel time and improve access to residential and commercial areas, with positive effects on businesses and residents.
According to him, improved roads would also make it easier for residents to access schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services while supporting economic activities within the benefiting communities.
The general manager explained that although heavy rainfall often limits permanent repairs, particularly asphalt laying, the corporation had continued to maintain roads throughout the rainy season through emergency interventions, temporary repairs and routine maintenance.
He added that the corporation conducts a significant proportion of its road maintenance work at night to minimise disruption to traffic and commercial activities.
According to him, scheduling repairs during periods of lower traffic volume allows maintenance teams to work more efficiently while reducing inconvenience to motorists, particularly on busy routes.
He, however, said adequate safety measures were put in place to protect workers and road users during night operations.
Other locations visited during the inspection included Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu Local Council Development Area; Awolowo Way in Ikeja; Lanre Awolokun Road and Idowu Olaitan Street in Shomolu; and Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho.
Ajanaku said the inspections formed part of the corporation’s monitoring and quality assurance efforts to ensure that ongoing projects met required standards and delivered lasting benefits.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, adding that the corporation would continue to deploy available resources to address road defects and prioritise locations requiring urgent attention.
