The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across Lagos, Kaduna, the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country, urging residents to take precautions during storms.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the country on Monday, September 28, 2026.
In the Northern States, NiMet said that thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected over parts of Adamawa and Taraba states in the morning.
By the afternoon and evening, scattered thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Adamawa and Bauchi States.
For the Central States, NiMet forecasts cloudy skies in the morning, with chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Niger and Kwara States.
It expects isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening over parts of the FCT, Benue, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara States.
In the Southern States, cloudy skies with chances of light rainfall are expected in the morning over parts of Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa and Cross River States.
NiMet also forecasts thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over most parts of the Southern States during the afternoon and evening.
The agency advised residents to stay indoors where possible during thunderstorms and avoid open spaces, tall trees and exposed structures.
It also urged people to secure loose outdoor items and stay away from unstable structures, as strong winds may occur.
NiMet advised residents to avoid flooded roads and remain alert in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
It also urged motorists to drive cautiously, noting that rainfall may reduce visibility and make roads slippery.
The agency further advised residents to unplug sensitive electrical appliances during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of damage from power surges.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet for safe flight planning and operations.
