Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to continue delivering good governance and meeting the needs of the people following his re-election.
Obasanjo gave the advice on Sunday night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede, Osun State.
The former president prayed for further success for Adeleke and encouraged him to remain committed to good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to residents.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told the governor.
Adeleke, who was surprised by the former president’s visit, thanked him for coming and expressed gratitude to God and the people of Osun State for the outcome of the election.
The governor promised to remain a loyal servant of the people and pledged not to disappoint those who supported his re-election.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” Adeleke said.
Obasanjo was accompanied on the visit by his ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, while Adeleke was joined by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, to receive the former president.
The meeting ended on a celebratory note, with Adeleke receiving Obasanjo with dancing and a song of praise to God for what he described as the successful outcome of the election.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to win the August 15 governorship election, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress came third with 17,180 votes.
