Rangers International FC of Enugu has petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents, including vandalism, involving visiting supporters of MC Alger during and after the CAF Champions League fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

The club raised concerns regarding the reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalisation of stadium seats and other acts of disorder.

“Rangers International FC, Enugu, confirms that it has formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters during and after our CAF Champions League fixture against MC Alger at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Sunday, 18 October 2026,” it said in a statement posted on its X handle.

In its petition, Rangers requested urgent intervention by CAF, including consideration of appropriate precautionary measures ahead of the return fixture scheduled for Friday, 23 October 2026, in Algiers, the capital of Algeria.

“Rangers International FC remains committed to fair play, respect for football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and all stakeholders,” the club stated.

“We have confidence in the established processes of CAF and await its response. We thank our supporters for their continued loyalty and urge everyone to remain calm, disciplined and focused as the Club prepares for the return leg. Never Say Die.”

The Enugu-based outfit beat MC Alger 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League second preliminary round clash.

The Flying Antelopes played with 10 men from the 13th minute of the clash at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, but scored in the 84th and 87th minutes to secure victory over their Algerian opponent.

MC Alger had defeated ASN Nigelec of Niger Republic 5-0 on aggregate to qualify for the next stage.

The Algerians won the domestic title and are seen as a formidable opponent for Rangers.

The winner of the two-legged tie between Rangers and MC Alger will book a place in the 2026/27 group stage.
