Top sports officials, including Philip Shaibu, Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olopade, have thrown their support behind Team Nigeria, urging the athletes to deliver outstanding performances at the Commonwealth Games.

Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has joined the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, and the Commission’s Director-General, Bukola Olopade, in urging Nigerians to support Team Nigeria as the country’s athletes continue their campaign at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The appeal came after another strong outing by Team Nigeria, with Chukwuebuka Enekwechi securing a medal in the men’s shot put event to boost the country’s medal tally and raise hopes of more podium finishes as the Games enter their closing stages.
Shaibu, Dikko and Olopade praised the athletes for their dedication, resilience and patriotism, describing their performances as the result of months of hard work, discipline and sacrifice.
They said the athletes deserve the unwavering support of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, noting that such encouragement would further motivate them to excel on the international stage.
The sports administrators expressed confidence in Team Nigeria’s ability to add to its medal haul, urging the athletes to remain focused, disciplined and determined throughout the remainder of the competition.
They also stressed that every medal won by Team Nigeria represents more than sporting success, describing each achievement as a source of national pride and a symbol of unity that transcends ethnic, religious and political differences.
According to them, the achievements of athletes such as Enekwechi continue to inspire a new generation of Nigerians aspiring to represent the country in international competitions.
With the Commonwealth Games still underway in Glasgow, the officials expressed optimism that Team Nigeria would build on its recent performances and secure more medals before the competition concludes.
