The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has stepped up efforts to fast-track the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port project in Kebbi State, a key initiative expected to boost trade, logistics and economic activities across the North-West region.

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has intensified efforts to fast-track the commencement of the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port project in Kebbi State, following a high-level meeting with Governor Nasir Idris.
The meeting, held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, reviewed the progress made so far and the remaining steps required for the take-off of the landmark project in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
The dry port is expected to transform trade and logistics in the state and the wider North-West region.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Pius Ukeyima, told journalists on Saturday that the discussions with Governor Idris were productive and encouraging.
He explained that the meeting followed an earlier inspection visit by officials of the council to the proposed project site in Tsamiya.
According to him, the promoters of the Inland Dry Port have submitted all the required documents to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), where they are currently undergoing processing.
Ukeyima described the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port as a strategic national project that will boost international trade, reduce pressure on the nation’s seaports, facilitate cargo movement to the hinterland, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

He noted that the project forms part of the Nigeria–Benin Republic Trade Corridor and would strengthen commercial activities between Nigeria and the neighbouring Republic of Niger, positioning Kebbi as a major logistics and trade hub.
Ukeyima added that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the development of inland dry ports across the country as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving transportation, logistics, and economic growth.
He further disclosed that plans were underway to establish a vehicle transit park along the Lagos–Sokoto Super Highway to provide a secure rest area for truck drivers and traders, while promoting commerce and improving road safety.
Governor Idris welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project.
He assured the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, the project promoters, and all relevant federal agencies of the state’s full support, stressing that his administration would work closely with them to remove all obstacles and ensure the timely commencement of the Inland Dry Port.
When completed, the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port is expected to enhance import and export activities, reduce transportation costs, attract local and foreign investment, generate employment opportunities, and further establish Kebbi State as a major gateway for regional and international trade.
