The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of dealing in illicit drugs during an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal black spot in the Ogui area of Enugu State.

The arrests were recorded on Sunday, August 16, 2026, as police operatives moved against the suspected criminal location following what the command described as credible information.

According to the police, the operation resulted in the recovery of several substances suspected to be illicit drugs, alongside equipment and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation.

Among the exhibits recovered were 158 sachets of suspected cannabis, 136 sachets of suspected “Colos” and 136 sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The operatives also recovered three small cups containing suspected cannabis, an electronic pocket scale and a pair of scissors.

Other items found during the operation included a wristwatch and ₦22,400 in cash.

The police did not disclose the identities of the three suspects or provide details about how long they had allegedly operated in the area. The command also did not state whether the recovered substances had undergone laboratory analysis to conclusively establish their composition.

The suspects are being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Enugu, as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered substances and determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement.

The Enugu operation forms part of a broader series of police operations recorded across several states between August 14 and 16, according to a nationwide operational update released by the Nigeria Police Force.

In the wider update, police reported arrests and recoveries linked to suspected banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, drug-related offences and other crimes in different parts of the country. The Force said the operations were driven largely by intelligence gathering and targeted raids on suspected criminal locations.

The police also said the various cases were being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments, including the SCID in Enugu.

For the Enugu case, the recovery of an electronic pocket scale alongside the suspected substances is part of the evidence being retained by investigators as they examine the activities allegedly taking place at the location.

However, the arrest of the three men does not amount to a conviction. They remain suspects unless and until a court determines otherwise.

The investigation will therefore be expected to establish the ownership of the recovered substances, their intended use and whether the suspects can be linked to the alleged distribution or sale of illicit drugs.

The latest operation highlights the police command’s continued reliance on intelligence-led raids to target suspected criminal locations in Enugu, particularly areas identified through information gathered by security operatives.

Authorities are also expected to determine whether further arrests or charges will follow as investigators continue examining the evidence recovered from the scene.

For now, the three suspects remain in police custody while the SCID Enugu conducts its investigation into the alleged drug-related activities.
