Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain united and mobilise total support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.
Oyebanji made the call on Monday at an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado Ekiti, where the party also began preparations for its ward, local government and state congresses scheduled for September.
The governor commended APC leaders and members for the unity and collective effort that helped the party secure victory in the June 20 governorship election, saying the same spirit must be sustained as the party prepares for future elections.
He stressed the importance of conducting peaceful, transparent and inclusive congresses that would accommodate different interests within the party and strengthen its grassroots structure.
According to him, the forthcoming congresses would have implications not only for the December local government elections but also for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Oyebanji said the APC must use the congresses to consolidate its position in Ekiti and build a strong political structure capable of delivering victories in subsequent elections.
“We have broken the jinx of consecutive tenure; we have to break another jinx when I leave in 2030, another APC person must emerge, and the foundation for that is these congresses,” he said.
He also urged party leaders to ensure that the process remains inclusive and peaceful, warning against actions that could undermine the unity that has strengthened the APC in the state.
As part of preparations for the congresses, an eight-member committee was constituted to oversee the process. The committee is headed by the Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Alaba Abejide.
The governor further called on party members to begin grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, emphasising the need for the APC to maintain its organisational strength across the state.
He said the party’s immediate task was to consolidate its structure, mobilise voters and position itself for victories in the local government, presidential, National Assembly and other forthcoming elections.
The development was also confirmed by the Ekiti State Government, which said the governor charged APC leaders and stakeholders to remain united and work towards securing total support for Tinubu’s re-election.
