Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oluyole Federal Constituency of Oyo State on Tuesday protested the outcome of the party’s primary election, alleging that the declared winner did not emerge victorious in the poll.

The protesters, who stormed the APC state secretariat along the Molete-Oke Ado Road in Ibadan, accused the party leadership of imposing Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe as the candidate despite what they claimed were results showing that Hon. Gbolagade Abiodun won the primary election and should have secured the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives seat.

Speaking during the protest, several APC leaders in the constituency said party members voted overwhelmingly for Gbolagade but were shocked when Akande-Sadipe was announced as the winner.

“We all came out and voted massively for Hon. Gbolagade but, lo and behold, we later heard that the name of Sadipe, who came fourth or third, was announced as the winner,” one of the protesters said.

They urged the party leadership to reverse the decision and recognise Gbolagade as the rightful winner of the primary election.

“We voted for Gbolagade and no one else. We did not vote for Sadipe,” they said.

The protesters said the demonstration was organised to express dissatisfaction with what they described as the imposition of a candidate by the party leadership.

They also questioned the authenticity of some of the results announced.

According to them, Gbolagade has positively impacted many lives despite not holding any elective office or government appointment.

Responding to the protesters, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo, said he had heard a lot about Gbolagade despite not knowing him personally.

He assured the protesters that the party leadership would do its best to resolve the crisis.
