The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State chapter, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the authorities, demanding payment of Earned Academic Allowance arrears for the 2018/2019 to 2022/2023 academic sessions and warning of an indefinite strike if its demands are not met.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University (GSU) branch, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Gombe State Government over unresolved welfare issues, unpaid allowances and the non-implementation of agreements reached with the union.
The union threatened to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike if its demands are not addressed within the period.
The decision was reached at a congress meeting held on Tuesday, following a report presented by the National Executive Council (NEC) after a visitation to the branch.
In a notice signed by the branch Chairperson, Mustapha Muhammad, and Secretary, Aliyu Shelleng, the union said the 14-day ultimatum commenced on Tuesday.
The union listed several outstanding issues, including the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government, as well as the non-implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage consequential adjustments and payment of accumulated arrears.
It also demanded the payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) arrears covering the 2018/2019 to 2022/2023 academic sessions.
The branch further accused the Gombe State Government of failing to comply with agreements reached with the union, including the payment of salary arrears arising from the ₦30,000 minimum wage consequential adjustments between April 2019 and September 2024.
It also cited the non-payment of arrears relating to the 25 per cent to 35 per cent wage award covering January 2023 to September 2024.
The notice to the university community and congress members partly reads: “The branch as directed by NEC resolved to commence a total, comprehensive and indefinite action to press home its demand upon the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum if the branch issues remained unaddressed. The ultimatum begins from today 11th August, 2026.”
The union warned that academic activities at the state-owned university would be grounded indefinitely if the outstanding issues were not resolved before the expiration of the ultimatum.
As of the time of filing this report, the Gombe State Government had yet to issue an official statement responding to the union’s notice or demands.
