The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a monitoring team to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, which is expected to be closely contested by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and major challengers, including APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a high-powered monitoring delegation to Osun State to oversee the conduct of police personnel ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The commission said the move was aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the August 15, 2026 election and ensuring that police officers deployed for the exercise adhere strictly to the rules guiding election duties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, the PSC said the delegation would monitor the conduct of police personnel before, during and after the election.
The delegation is led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), a member of the commission’s board and Chairman of its Standing Committee on Police Matters.
According to the commission, the team will ensure that officers maintain the highest standards of discipline and professionalism throughout the electoral process.
“The Commission is committed to deepening public confidence in the electoral process by guaranteeing that Police conduct remains impartial, rule-based, and civil at all times,” the statement said.
The PSC urged all police officers deployed to Osun to remain apolitical, conduct themselves professionally and protect the rights of citizens to vote freely and peacefully.
It also warned that officers found compromising the credibility of the election would face sanctions.
“The PSC reassures Nigerians that it will not hesitate to sanction any officer found compromising the credibility of the election,” it said.
The commission’s deployment comes ahead of Saturday’s election, which is expected to be keenly contested between the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, and other major contenders, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The election campaign has been characterised by heightened political tensions and allegations of violence, intimidation prompting increased security preparations across the state.
More than 25,000 security personnel are expected to be deployed for the election, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said preparations for the poll are on course.
