The Super Falcons have handed a starting berth to veterans, Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega, for Nigeria’s 2027 Women’s World Cup play-off against South Africa.
Nigeria’s coach, Justine Madugu, also retained goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie despite criticisms over her performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), especially her outing against Cameroon and Malawi.
The Indomitable Lionesses defeated the 10-time WAFCON winners 1-0 on Sunday, ending Nigeria’s hopes of retaining the title they won the last time in Morocco. That loss also meant the West Africans missed out on an automatic ticket to next year’s World Cup.
Many fans and pundits have questioned the Brighton goalkeeper’s positioning for the free kick that gave Cameroon the lone goal.
But Madugu has kept faith with Nnadozie, who has been crowned CAF Best Goalkeeper for the past three years, for the clash with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
